Types of Sprinklers and there specific uses

Sprinkler systems are essential to help prevent fires and in most cases are legal requirements especially for commercial buildings and premises. There are a variety of different sprinkler systems and the most common are wet pipe and valve.

Wet Sprinklers
:
The wet pipe is the most common and is more often used in buildings with no risk of freezing obviously as they use water and other liquids to operate. The wet system is mainly essential for high rise building, multi-story and as a safety alternative. The wet sprinkler is the one of choice as it is the fastest to react as the pipe are constantly full with water.
Alternate Sprinklers :
These type of sprinklers as the name suggests can alternate from water and air, for example during the summer they will contain water and during the winter months emptied and filled with pressured air. The obvious advantage of this alternate system is that building with out heating or good heating can use the air in the winter as the water has risk of freezing.

Dry pipe sprinkler system :
As the name suggests the dry pipe sprinkler system does not use water at all the time, the pipes are filled with pressured air all the time and the water is held back by the control value. It is only when the main head is opened that air pressure drops and opens the value which then enables the water to flow into the lawn sprinkler system. The dry pipe system is used most commonly when the other more common type like the wet and alternate systems can not be used.

Pre Action Sprinkler system :
Very similar to the dry pipe system the pre action sprinklers are fill with air to begin with and only when the detector kicks in i.e. smoke is detected, do the pipes fill with water and spread around the sprinkler system. The pre-action systems are most commonly used when water is no acceptable for the pipes to contain water unless there is of course a fire.
